SONAR CRACKED open one eye, noted that Jag was still asleep, and yawned. He stood up on his branch, lowered his upper body before extending in order to stretch his hind legs. Energy hummed as he enjoyed the comfortable temperatures under the canopy of their tree. A slight breeze added a bit more coolness, making for a perfect summer afternoon.
How long they had napped, he didn’t know. It couldn’t have been long, considering the location of the sun. Long enough for him to feel refreshed, energetic, and a bit mischievous.
His gaze once more landed on Jag. The bigger feline took up most of the large branch, all four legs hanging over the sides as if to balance himself while sleeping. Jag’s chin rested against the bark, his tail draped to one side.
In essence, he looked like one lazy house cat stretched out on his perch.
Sonar chuckled to himself. House cat would never describe Jag. Wild, primal, and downright dominating fit much better.
He’d never met anyone quite like the jaguar shifter. Would normally have been put off by the abundance of attitude and penchant for tossing out orders complete with a growl. Yet Jag rarely rubbed him the wrong way. Sonar instead saw the opportunities for pestering the typically temperamental guy, yanking his chain, and adding in a bit of play. Even when Jag snapped and turned downright surly, Sonar took it all in stride. His normally fairly laid-back personality reflected back on his inner ocelot. The beast inside didn’t even get riled when Jag started flashing fangs. Not anymore. Instead, his cat stood up, took notice, and began to chuff in excitement.
Which was downright awkward.
Ever since that furious fuck session back in Paris, both Sonar and his beast had eagerly awaited a repeat performance. Sure, he knew tension relief had driven the sex that day, and personal emotions had little to do with the moment. He didn’t mind. Long ago he said he’d gladly bend over and offer up his ass if it would help Jag decompress.
Truth in advertising.
Little did he know how absolutely terrific that experience would be. The best he’d ever had. They matched so well, pushed one another to great heights, then came nearly together in a fiery rapture. The sex would only get better once softer emotions played a part. He knew that for a fact. The problem was, how did Jag feel about taking things up a notch?
In crisis situations people gravitated toward one another. Relationships formed. Traditionally, they fell apart down the road as the base for their feelings crumbled. Did their coupling fit that description? Definitely. Could they transform from bedroom buddies and partners to lovers in the traditional sense? Possibly. He wanted that, yes. Jag had the tiebreaking vote. Unfortunately, he wasn’t spilling any beans or dropping hard-to-miss hints about where he expected them to go from here.
I sound like a lovesick teen trying to figure out if another boy likes me and is going to ask me to the prom.
He snorted to himself and shook his head.
